# GPT-5.5-Cyber Drops to Caution: OpenAI Removes gpt-5.5-cyber-preview From the API on 1 February 2027

OpenAI deprecated gpt-5.5-cyber-preview on 5 November 2026 and will remove it from the API on 1 February 2027, the same day GPT-6 Cyber shipped. We are moving GPT-5.5-Cyber from conditional to caution: keep it running while you migrate, but start nothing new on it.

**Verdict: caution.** [GPT-5.5-Cyber](/models/gpt-5-5-cyber) now has a removal date, so we are moving it from conditional to caution. It keeps working until 1 February 2027, but no team should start new work on it. The two replacements are [GPT-5.6-Cyber](/models/gpt-5-6-cyber), which costs the same per token, and GPT-6 Cyber, which costs more.

## What happened

OpenAI's API deprecations page added an entry dated 2026-11-05, headed "GPT-5.5-Cyber". It reads: "The gpt-5.5-cyber-preview model is deprecated and will be removed from the API on February 1, 2027." The recommended replacement is "the most capable cyber model available to you". The entry names no specific model.

The same day, 5 November 2026, OpenAI's API changelog announced GPT-6 Cyber (`gpt-6-cyber`) for investigating vulnerabilities, reproducing them in an authorized test environment and verifying fixes. The changelog points to the Daybreak setup documentation before first use.

OpenAI's pricing page lists the three cyber models side by side (per 1M tokens, standard, short context only):

| Model | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|
| GPT-5.5 Cyber | $12.50 | $75 |
| GPT-5.6 Cyber | $12.50 | $75 |
| GPT-6 Cyber | $20 | $100 |

## Why it matters

From today, 6 November, teams on the 5.5 preview have 87 days. That is generous by OpenAI's own rules: the deprecations page warns that models with "preview" in the name "may be retired with much shorter notice, such as 2 weeks".

The replacement wording matters more than the date. "Most capable cyber model available to you" signals that access differs by customer, and OpenAI does not say that every team on the 5.5 preview can call GPT-6 Cyber. Your path depends on what your Daybreak access covers. That is why we stop at caution, not avoid: the model still runs, and the migration target is not the same for everyone.

The advice for new work does not depend on access. Do not build on a model with a fixed removal date when two newer cyber models sit on the same price list, one of them at the identical rate.

## What changes for you

- **If you call gpt-5.5-cyber-preview today:** inventory every integration, confirm which newer cyber model your Daybreak access covers, and migrate before 1 February 2027.
- **If GPT-5.6-Cyber is open to you:** it is the zero-cost move on token price ($12.50/$75, the same as 5.5). Re-run your evals before switching.
- **If you move to GPT-6 Cyber:** budget for $20 input and $100 output per 1M tokens, 60% more on input and 33% more on output than the 5.5 preview.
- **If you are planning new cyber work:** skip GPT-5.5-Cyber entirely.

## Where we stand

GPT-5.5-Cyber moves from conditional to caution. GPT-5.6-Cyber keeps its conditional verdict. GPT-6 Cyber is not in our directory yet, and we have not tested it.
