GPT-4o moves from **Recommended → Conditional**. It has been delisted from OpenAI's flagship API pricing page and superseded by the [GPT-5.x family](/models/gpt-5-5). You can still call it, but you shouldn't build new workloads on it.

## What Changed for GPT-4o

OpenAI's [API pricing page](https://platform.openai.com/docs/pricing) now lists only GPT-5.5, GPT-5.5-pro, GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4-mini, GPT-5.4-nano, and GPT-5.4-pro under "Flagship models." [GPT-4o](/models/gpt-4o) is gone — not in multimodal models, not in specialized models, not anywhere.

This follows the [February 2026 retirement](https://openai.com/index/retiring-gpt-4o-and-older-models/) of GPT-4o from ChatGPT.

## Why Conditional, Not Avoid
