# Vercel Eve

Open-source TypeScript agent framework where every agent is a directory of files

**Verdict: conditional.** Filesystem-first agent framework that turns directories into production agents — best-in-class for Vercel-native TypeScript teams, but platform coupling is real. Last verified 2026-10-15.

Vercel Eve is an Apache 2.0-licensed, TypeScript-native agent framework launched at Vercel Ship 26 (London, June 17, 2026). An Eve agent is a directory of files: agent.ts for model config, instructions.md for system prompt, tools/ for callable TypeScript tools, and skills/ for on-demand Markdown playbooks. The framework compiles this directory into a durable, production-ready service on Vercel Functions with six built-in capabilities: durable execution (via Vercel Workflow SDK), sandboxed compute (Vercel Sandbox), human-in-the-loop approvals, subagents, OpenTelemetry tracing, and a built-in evals system. Model-agnostic through Vercel AI Gateway, supporting OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, and open-weight models. Still in beta under Vercel's beta terms, with APIs that may change before general availability, per the repository README read on October 15, 2026. The releases page read that day lists eve@0.79.1 (October 14, 2026) as the latest release, and the repository showed 5.6k stars. Vercel's release notes for eve@0.78.0 (October 13, 2026) say approved calls now always run as the requester: before that release, when another person approved a call it ran with the approver's identity and credentials, so a requester could get a tool to act with access they did not have. The notes call this closing a privilege escalation and describe it as a breaking change; no CVE or security advisory was listed on the pages we read.

## Strengths

- Filesystem-first design — agents are directories you can diff, review in PRs, and import across projects
- Six production capabilities included by default: durable execution, sandboxed compute, human-in-the-loop, subagents, OpenTelemetry, evals
- Durable execution via Vercel Workflow SDK — sessions survive crashes, cold starts, and new deployments
- Model-agnostic through Vercel AI Gateway — supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, and open-weight models
- Multi-channel deployment — connects agents to Slack, Discord, Teams, Telegram, Twilio, GitHub, Linear with no webhook plumbing
- Platform-dependent production features — durable execution and sandboxing are Vercel-native; porting requires adapter replacement
- In public beta — APIs and behavior may change before GA
- TypeScript-only — no Python support
